Per-Mile Pricing Guide
- Short distance (under 500 miles): $1.00 to $1.75 per mile
- Medium distance (500 to 1,000 miles): $0.75 to $1.00 per mile
- Long distance (1,000+ miles): $0.50 to $0.75 per mile
Per-mile rates drop on longer hauls because fixed costs (pickup scheduling, inspection, loading) spread across more miles. Florida's I-95 and I-75 corridors are among the busiest auto transport lanes in the country, which keeps carrier availability high and rates competitive year-round.
Pricing and timing notes
Standard sedans, open carriers. Pricing above reflects standard vehicles on open transport. Larger vehicles, inoperable vehicles, and expedited service will be higher.
Enclosed transport runs 40 to 60 percent above the open cost ranges shown on the state table. Best for classics, exotics, and vehicles valued over $75,000.
Snowbird season (October to April) adds 1 to 3 days to transit and 15 to 35 percent to pricing on I-95 and I-75 corridors. Book 2 to 3 weeks ahead during this window.
City-level variation: Pickups and deliveries in major metros (Miami, Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville) match the tables above. Add a day for rural pickups or remote drop locations.

Military and PCS Auto Transport in Florida
Florida has more active military installations than all but two states. PCS orders move fast, and shipping a car is usually the last thing anyone wants to think about during a relocation. Our military auto transport service coordinates vehicle shipments for active duty, reserves, National Guard, veterans, and military families across every branch. Pickup and delivery are timed to your report-by date.

Timing Your Shipment Around PCS Orders
Most PCS orders give you 30 to 60 days to report. Transit time runs 1 to 10 days depending on the route. The sweet spot for booking is two to three weeks before your report date. That leaves room for carrier assignment, pickup, and delivery without cutting it close.
If your orders came late or your report window is tight, call us. We handle expedited pickups out of every Florida installation and can usually get a truck assigned within a few business days on active lanes.
Military Discount and Who Qualifies
Military rates apply to every shipment. Call with your branch, rank, and destination installation. We will apply the discount to your quote before you book.
The discount covers active duty, reserves, National Guard, retirees, veterans, and immediate military family members relocating under orders. Open and enclosed transport both qualify. If you are shipping a second vehicle for a spouse or dependent, it ships at the same rate.
Florida Seasonal Shipping Guide
Florida demand and pricing swing hard with the seasons. Snowbird traffic drives I-95 and I-75 from October through April, summer family relocations create a second peak from June through August, and weather patterns shape carrier scheduling year-round. Use this guide to time your shipment and pick the right transport type.
12-Month Florida Shipping Demand
Snowbird Season (October to April)
Northern retirees and seasonal residents push inbound demand from October through December as they head south, and outbound demand from March through April as they return home. December adds a holiday spike on top of the snowbird flow. Carriers run full loads on I-95 and I-75 in both directions throughout this seven-month window.
Summer Moving Peak (June to August)
Families relocating to or from Florida drive a second wave of demand during the summer. School calendars and corporate transfers concentrate moves into June, July, and August, tightening carrier capacity even though snowbird traffic has slowed.
| Period | Demand Level | Pricing vs. Base |
|---|---|---|
| October to April | Peak (snowbird migration) | +15 to 25 percent |
| June to August | Secondary peak (summer moves) | +15 to 25 percent |
| May and September | Base | Standard rates |
Most-Booked Snowbird Routes

- Florida to/from New Jersey
- Florida to/from Massachusetts
- Florida to/from Pennsylvania
- Florida to/from Michigan

- Florida to/from Illinois
Booking lead time and off-peak savings
Book 2 to 4 weeks ahead during October to April and June to August to lock in carrier capacity and the lowest available rate. For the cheapest pricing, ship in May or September, or book a northbound route out of Florida during the fall snowbird rush when most carriers are running south with empty return space.
Florida Weather Factors
Florida weather changes what smart shipping looks like. Three conditions matter most, and each one affects your timing, your carrier choice, or both.
Hurricane Season
June 1 to November 30Carriers watch tropical systems and may delay pickup or reroute around storm paths.
What we do: If a storm threatens your pickup or drop-off, your coordinator calls you with options. Hold, reroute, or cancel for a full refund.
Summer Heat and Humidity
June through SeptemberFlorida summers routinely top 95 degrees with heavy humidity. Leather, soft tops, and sensitive paint all feel it.
Best fit: Classic, exotic, or high-value cars ship better in enclosed transport during summer. The climate protection is worth the extra cost.
Rainy Season
May through OctoberAfternoon thunderstorms hit most of Florida daily in summer. Open carriers tie down your vehicle securely but do not shield it from rain.
What to expect: A car on an open trailer may arrive with water spots and need a wash. Enclosed transport removes that worry.
Dealer and Auction Auto Transport in Florida
Florida is one of the top vehicle sales states in the country, which makes it a hub for dealer-to-dealer transfers and auction purchases. Manheim Orlando, Manheim Fort Lauderdale, ADESA Jacksonville, and dozens of independent auctions push thousands of transport orders every month.
Dealer Auto Transport Services
Number 1 Auto Transport works with independent dealers, franchise groups, and private buyers shopping at auction. Multi-vehicle shipments, recurring dealer lanes, and time-sensitive auction pickups are daily work for our team. Dealers with steady volume can set up a business account for faster booking, consolidated invoicing, and priority carrier matching.
Auction Transport
Auction vehicles usually have tight pickup deadlines, typically 3 to 5 business days after the sale. Share your auction (IAA, Manheim, Copart), lot number, and deadline when you request a quote. We prioritize carrier assignment so your vehicle ships on time.
Fleet Management
Corporate fleet relocations, rental car repositioning, and government vehicle transfers all need coordinated multi-vehicle logistics. We offer volume pricing, consolidated scheduling, and single-invoice billing on fleet shipments of any size. Our team coordinates pickup and delivery across multiple Florida locations on your timeline.
How Number 1 Auto Transport helps: As a broker, we connect dealers, auction buyers, and fleet managers with vetted carriers running every major Florida lane. You get one point of contact, one invoice, and price-lock quotes at booking. Call 855.422.4141 for a dealer or fleet rate.
Open vs Enclosed Auto Transport in Florida
Open car shipping handles about 85 percent of vehicle shipments in the country and is the right call for most Florida moves. Enclosed auto transport costs more but adds full weather and debris protection, which matters for classics, exotics, and high-value vehicles. Use the comparison below to pick the option that fits your vehicle and budget.
Side-by-Side Comparison
| Feature | Open Transport | Enclosed Transport |
|---|---|---|
| Share of US shipments | About 85 percent | About 15 percent |
| Vehicles per load | 8 to 10 | 2 to 6 |
| Cost vs. base | Standard rates | 40 to 60 percent above open |
| Protection | Tied down securely, exposed to weather | Fully enclosed, shielded from weather and debris |
| Carrier availability | Wide, faster pickup windows | Tighter, books up fast in show season |
| Recommended booking lead time | 1 to 2 weeks | 2 to 3 weeks |
| Best fit | Daily drivers and standard vehicles | Classics, exotics, vehicles valued over $75,000 |
When Each Option Makes Sense
Choose Open Transport If
- You're shipping a daily driver or commuter vehicle
- Your vehicle is a standard sedan, SUV, or truck
- Your vehicle handles normal weather exposure
- You want the most budget-friendly option
- Cost matters more than maximum protection
Choose Enclosed Transport If
- You own a classic or collector car
- Your vehicle is an exotic or luxury car valued over $75,000
- You're shipping a show car to Amelia Island Concours or Cars and Coffee
- Your vehicle has custom paint, a wrap, or is a convertible
- You're shipping a recently restored vehicle
Florida-specific note: Hurricane season, summer heat, and daily afternoon thunderstorms make enclosed transport more attractive in Florida than in drier states. If your vehicle is sensitive to UV exposure, soft-top, or has high-end paint, factor the climate into your decision.

Florida Auto Transport Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about shipping a car to or from Florida. Call 855.422.4141 or request a quote online if you don't see your question below.
How much does it cost to ship a car to Florida?
Costs typically range from $450 for short in-state routes to $1,600 or more for cross-country shipments. The exact price depends on distance, vehicle size, transport type (open or enclosed), and seasonal demand. Snowbird season (October through March) is the most expensive period for Florida routes.
How long does it take to ship a car to or from Florida?
Most shipments within the eastern United States take 3 to 6 days. Cross-country routes from the West Coast average 7 to 10 days. In-state Florida shipments typically take 2 to 4 days depending on distance and carrier routing.
Is my vehicle insured during transport?
Yes. Every carrier in our network is required to carry a minimum of $250,000 in cargo insurance. Your coordinator can provide the carrier's insurance certificate before pickup. We recommend reviewing the policy details and contacting your own auto insurance provider to understand any supplemental coverage.
Can I ship personal items in my vehicle?
Most carriers allow a small amount of personal items in the trunk (typically up to 100 lbs). Items must be below the window line and cannot include hazardous materials, valuables, or firearms. Personal items are not covered by carrier cargo insurance, so ship them at your own risk.
What is the difference between open and enclosed transport?
Open carriers are multi-car haulers that expose vehicles to weather and road conditions. Enclosed carriers fully protect the vehicle inside a covered trailer. Open is less expensive and more widely available; enclosed is recommended for high-value, classic, or exotic vehicles.
Do I need to be present for pickup and delivery?
Someone 18 or older must be present at both pickup and delivery to sign the Bill of Lading and complete the vehicle inspection. If you cannot be present, you can designate an authorized representative.
Can you ship an inoperable vehicle?
Yes. Inoperable vehicles require a carrier with winch loading capability, which adds $100 to $200 to the shipping cost. Let us know the specific condition (does not run, does not steer, does not brake) when requesting a quote so we can assign appropriate equipment.
How do I prepare my vehicle for transport?
Remove all personal items, loose accessories, and aftermarket additions that could detach. Ensure the vehicle has no more than a quarter tank of fuel. Disable any aftermarket alarms. Document existing damage with photos before pickup. Leave one set of keys with the carrier.
What happens if my vehicle is damaged during shipping?
All shipments include carrier cargo insurance. If damage occurs, it is documented on the Bill of Lading at delivery. File a claim directly with the carrier's insurance provider. Your coordinator will assist you with the claims process and provide all necessary documentation.
Can I ship a leased vehicle?
Yes. Leased vehicles can be shipped with no restrictions. The leasing company does not need to be notified for standard transport. Your lease agreement's mileage limits are actually a strong reason to ship rather than drive.
Do you offer expedited shipping?
Yes. Expedited service prioritizes your vehicle for the next available carrier, typically reducing pickup time to 1 to 3 days. Expedited shipping costs 20 to 30 percent more than standard service and is subject to carrier availability on your route.
What is the cancellation policy?
You can cancel your order at any time before a carrier is dispatched with no penalty. Once a carrier has been assigned and dispatched, cancellation terms are outlined in your transport agreement. Review your agreement or contact your coordinator for specific details.
Can I track my shipment?
Yes. Your dedicated coordinator provides regular updates throughout transit. You will receive confirmation of pickup, periodic location updates during transport, and advance notice before delivery.
Do you ship vehicles to and from the Florida Keys?
Yes, though Keys shipments require special logistics. Most carriers cannot navigate the Overseas Highway bridges with a full load. We typically arrange delivery to a terminal in Miami or Homestead with a separate driveaway to your Keys destination. Full door-to-door pricing is quoted upfront.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept credit cards, debit cards, certified checks, and wire transfers for the deposit. The carrier balance due at delivery is typically paid by cash, Zelle, cashier's check, or money order directly to the carrier. Payment terms are confirmed at booking.
How far in advance should I book?
For standard service, booking 1 to 2 weeks ahead is recommended. During peak snowbird season (December through February), we recommend 3 to 4 weeks advance booking. Expedited service can accommodate shorter timelines at an additional cost.
