How to Ship a Car to Missouri?
The best way to answer the question of "How to ship my car to Missouri" is to show you how we operate our auto shipping business. We know car owners won't trust just any car shipping company to move their vehicle across states. They want experience and reputation. Here's how we do it:
- First, once your order is placed, we'll start the process of moving a car to Missouri. This usually happens within a week. We'll continue updating you on important information, including the time and date of pickup, tracking number, and the truck driver's number.
- Then, the truck driver will call you to finalize delivery plans. The drivers in our carrier network strive to take care of all vehicles carried as if they are their own. Protecting your car against any damage from delivery is their ultimate concern. You'll also sign and receive a Bill of Lading before the driver leaves.
- Finally, once the vehicle arrives in Missouri, you and the driver will inspect the vehicle for any damage. This is also the time when you will sign the final inspection report. It's that simple!

Need Reliable Lowboy or Step Deck Carriers for Your Heavy Equipment in Missouri?
In Missouri, where construction is a constant due to the state's dynamic growth and the geographical spread of its major cities, construction crews frequently face the challenge of transporting heavy equipment efficiently. This is where the expertise of Missouri's equipment transport professionals at Number 1 Auto Transport and the specialized lowboy carriers in our network becomes invaluable.
The task of transporting heavy construction machinery is a complex and critical operation. The seasoned lowboy carrier drivers in our network are adept at managing oversized loads and heavy equipment. They possess the necessary training and experience to safely transport a wide range of heavy machinery, including graders, excavators, trenchers, and dump trucks, from one construction site to another.
These drivers excel in maneuvering heavy equipment both on and off job sites, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum efficiency. They are also proficient in navigating Missouri's busy highways, even with the most unique and challenging loads. With Number 1 Auto Transport, you can trust that your heavy equipment will be transported safely, securely, and on schedule, contributing to the smooth progression of your construction projects.
What Moves on Lowboy and Step Deck Trailers
- Graders, excavators, trenchers, and dump trucks
- Dozers, backhoes, and wheel loaders
- Cranes, lifts, and aerial booms
- Skid steers and compact track loaders
- Combines, tractors, and farm implements
- Industrial generators and pumps
Why Lowboy and RGN Transport Works for Missouri
Height Compliance
Lowboy decks sit 18 to 24 inches off the ground. Tall machinery clears bridges and overpasses on I-70, I-44, and I-55.
Stability and Capacity
Step deck and lowboy trailers carry the weight of full-size dozers, cranes, and combines without straining the suspension.
Permit and Escort Expertise
Carriers in our network handle MoDOT oversize and overweight permits, the routes those permits set, escort vehicles, and the holiday travel limits.
Equipment that does not fit on a step deck moves on a Removable Gooseneck (RGN) trailer. The front detaches so tracked machinery rolls on without ramps. Best for excavators, dozers, and equipment without functional drive systems.
Need a Missouri heavy haul quote? Send equipment specs and route. We come back with a price-locked rate.

Enclosed Transport in Missouri
Considering Enclosed Auto Transport When Shipping Your Car to Missouri? Enclosed auto transport in Missouri is the optimal choice for safeguarding your vehicle against potential weather-related damages. When considering car transport in Missouri, you have two primary options for enclosed auto transport: Soft-Sided Enclosed Auto Transport: This option involves a heavy canvas covering the carriers, providing a barrier against wind-blown debris, rain, sleet, and light snow. It's a reliable choice for most weather conditions Missouri encounters. Hard-Sided Enclosed Auto Transport: For the utmost protection, hard-sided carriers are the way to go. They offer all the benefits of soft-sided transport, with the added advantage of a rigid exterior that shields your vehicle in the rare event of more severe impacts or weather conditions.
Missouri weather note. Missouri's diverse climate, with its hot summers and cold winters, presents unique challenges for vehicle transportation. When shipping a vehicle across the Show-Me State, from the bustling streets of Kansas City to the scenic routes of the Ozarks, choosing enclosed auto transport ensures your vehicle's safety and protection. Whether you own a classic car, a luxury sedan, or a high-end SUV, Missouri's unpredictable weather (ranging from intense summer heat to icy winter conditions) necessitates a transportation solution that shields your vehicle from the elements.
Ready to ensure your vehicle's safe passage through Missouri? Contact us today to learn more about our enclosed auto transport options and how we can tailor them to meet your specific needs.

Should You Drive or Ship Your Car to or from Missouri?
No route guide covers a Missouri lane yet, so we do not publish a driving cost for one. Here is how the two options compare on everything except the price.
Driving vs. Shipping, Side by Side
| Factor | Driving yourself | Shipping your car |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | Fuel, lodging, meals, tolls, and wear, paid as you go | One quote, locked at booking |
| Miles on the odometer | Every mile of the trip, plus any detours | Zero miles added |
| Days | Your own days behind the wheel, then a trip back | 2 to 3 days under 1,000 miles and 7 to 10 days from 1,750 to 2,500 miles, none of it yours |
| Risk | Ice storms, spring tornado warnings, flash floods at low-water crossings, and fatigue on I-70 and I-44 | Covered by the carrier's cargo insurance |
| Effort | Route planning, hotels, winter road reports, and a flight home | Picked up and delivered for you |
The transit windows are the ones this page has always published. Your quote supplies the shipping price, so the table leaves dollar figures out.
The bottom line. Driving makes sense on a short run, the way our FAQ below says. For a long haul, a winter move, or a car you want kept off the road, shipping gives you the days back and keeps the miles off the car.

Moving to Missouri: What to Do After Your Car Arrives
Most people shipping into Missouri are relocating or reporting to Fort Leonard Wood or Whiteman. Missouri gives you 30 days, and nearly every newcomer needs a stop at the county assessor first. Here is what actually applies.
New Missouri residents have 30 days from becoming a resident to title the vehicle in Missouri. No sales tax is due on a car you owned and drove in another state for at least 90 days. Before the license office, get a VIN and odometer inspection, proof of insurance, and a statement from your county assessor.
No Sales Tax on a Car You Have Owned 90 Days
Missouri's state sales tax on a vehicle is 4.225 percent, plus local sales tax. You will not owe it if you owned and drove the car in another state for at least 90 days before titling it here. Owned it for less? Show proof of the tax you paid in the other state, and pay the difference if Missouri's state and local tax is higher.
Missouri counties also collect personal property tax, and the license office checks it. As a newcomer, bring a statement of non-assessment from your county assessor, or the City of St. Louis assessor, showing you owed no Missouri personal property tax for the last year. Service members who do not claim Missouri as home show a recent Leave and Earning Statement instead.
VIN Check, Safety Inspection, and Emissions
Every car titled in another state needs an identification number and odometer inspection at an authorized Missouri inspection station. A Missouri safety inspection counts for it, and the form must be less than 60 days old.
Missouri still requires safety inspections in 2026. Since August 28, 2019, cars in their first 10 model years with under 150,000 miles are exempt. Older cars are inspected every two years: even model years in even calendar years, odd in odd. A station may charge no more than $12.
Emissions testing applies only if the car is registered in the City of St. Louis or in St. Louis, St. Charles, or Jefferson County. Gasoline cars from 1996 and newer and diesels from 1997 and newer take the test before registering, on the same even and odd year cycle, and it costs $24. Electric cars and plug-in hybrids are exempt. Regular hybrids are tested.
Insurance and License
Missouri requires liability coverage of at least $25,000 per person and $50,000 per accident for bodily injury, and $25,000 for property damage. The property damage minimum rose from $10,000 on July 1, 2019. You also need uninsured motorist coverage of $25,000 per person and $50,000 per accident. Keep proof of insurance in the car.
Apply for a Missouri driver license as soon as you establish residency. Surrender a valid license from another state, or one expired 184 days or less, and Missouri waives the written and driving tests. You still take the road sign and vision tests.
Take the out-of-state title, Form 108, the inspection forms, proof of insurance, and the assessor's statement to any Missouri license office. Fees: $8.50 for the title and a $9 processing fee, plus yearly registration of $18.25 to $51.25 by taxable horsepower and another $9 processing fee. Electric cars add a $150 special fuel decal each year, and plug-in hybrids from 2018 and newer add $75. Check current fees with the Missouri Department of Revenue before you go.
Missouri Seasonal Shipping Guide
Missouri's busy months follow the Florida and Texas snowbird runs and the summer PCS season. Ice and snow set the pace in winter, and tornadoes and flash floods in spring. Here is what to expect month by month.

- PCS season (May to August)
- Snowbird runs on the Florida and Texas lanes

Snowbird Runs to Florida and Texas
Our Florida page puts snowbird season at October to April. Cars head south from October through December and come back north in March and April. Our Texas page shows the same pattern on its lanes. Both lanes are on this page's tables, so book early in those months. See our snowbird auto transport page for booking lead times and price locking.
PCS Season and Winter
PCS season runs May to August. Book 3 to 4 weeks out for a move to or from Fort Leonard Wood, Whiteman, or a Guard base. In winter, ice and snow decide how fast trucks move. MoDOT clears interstates first, so a pickup off a rural route can wait a day.
| Window | Demand | What drives it | Booking lead time |
|---|---|---|---|
| October to December | Snowbirds head south | Florida's snowbird season opens, and snowbirds head south to Texas | 2 to 4 weeks on Florida lanes, 3 to 4 on Texas lanes |
| January to February | Base | Snowbirds stay south. Ice and snow set the pace in Missouri | 2 to 3 weeks, as our FAQ advises |
| March to April | Snowbirds head home | Cars come back north from Florida and Texas | 2 to 4 weeks on Florida lanes, 3 on Texas lanes |
| May to August | Peak (PCS season) | PCS orders to and from Fort Leonard Wood, Whiteman, and the Guard bases | 3 to 4 weeks |
| September | Base | The quiet month before the fall run. Our Florida page names it a low-rate month | 2 to 3 weeks |
Missouri has no route guide, and this page publishes no seasonal figure beyond the 2 to 3 week booking advice in its FAQ. The snowbird windows and lead times come from our Florida auto transport page (October to April, 2 to 4 weeks) and our Texas auto transport page (south from October to December, north in March and April), whose lanes appear on this page's tables. Neither page names Missouri on its snowbird list. The PCS window and its lead time also come from the Texas page. We publish no seasonal premium for Missouri, so your quote carries the real number.

Missouri Weather Factors
Ice Storms and Freezing Rain
Missouri averages 8 to 24 inches of snow a winter, most of it in the north. Freezing rain matters as much. It freezes when it hits the ground and coats roads with ice, so a winter pickup or delivery can slip a day.
Interstates Clear First
MoDOT plows and treats interstates first, around the clock until lanes are near normal. I-70, I-44, and I-55 get cleared before rural routes, so a country pickup may wait for the crews.
Tornado Season
Spring storms bring tornadoes, most often between 3 and 9 p.m. Missouri accounts for six of the 30 deadliest tornadoes in U.S. history. A warning on the route holds a truck until the storm passes.
Flash Floods
Flooding is Missouri's deadliest weather hazard. Most deaths come in flash floods and involve people in vehicles at low-water crossings. Carriers do not drive into water over the road, so a flooded route can move a delivery to a dry meetpoint.
Storm Response Plan
Monitor
We track ice storms, tornado watches, and flood warnings several days out and flag any Missouri shipment in the path.
Communicate
Your dedicated agent calls 24 to 48 hours before the affected pickup or delivery window.
Hold, Reroute, or Refund
No penalty for weather-driven changes. We reroute, delay, or refund based on your call.
Booking lead time during peak Missouri windows: 3 to 4 weeks from May to August on PCS orders. 2 to 4 weeks for the snowbird runs from October to December and in March and April. 2 to 3 weeks the rest of the year, as our FAQ advises.

The total weight must be under 100 pounds, and for security reasons, they should be stored in the trunk or back seat, remaining below the window line. It's important to note that any personal belongings shipped within the car are not covered by the standard transport insurance in case of damage or loss.
Does my vehicle need to have plates when shipping it to or from Missouri?
No, but sometimes a carrier will have to meet in a parking lot due to the size of his truck and the destination street layout. If so, you will most likely have to drive the car a few blocks.
How should I prep my car before shipping it?
It's recommended to wash your car so the transport carrier can do a proper inspection at pickup. Remove any toll tags so you don't incur fees while in transit. It's also best to remove any loose parts to prevent any damage during transport.
What is the cheapest way to transport a car to or from Missouri?
The cheapest way to ship a car to or from Missouri is on an open car trailer.

How do I get a quote for shipping my car to Missouri?

The transport carrier will conduct a thorough inspection with you at the predetermined pickup location, noting any existing dents or scratches. The same inspection will be done upon delivery.
How far in advance do I need to schedule my Missouri car shipping service?
To ensure we can fulfill your preferred delivery timeframe, scheduling your car shipment with ample lead time is highly recommended. Ideally, booking your transport at least 2 to 3 weeks in advance allows for optimal planning and execution.
Do I have to register my car in Missouri after it arrives?
Yes, if you are moving here. You have 30 days from becoming a resident to title the car in Missouri. No sales tax is due if you owned and drove it in another state for at least 90 days. You need a VIN and odometer inspection, proof of insurance, and a statement from your county assessor.
