Looking for a Car Shipping Service in Oregon?
Venturing into Oregon is not just entering a new state; it's stepping into a distinctive state of mind. As showcased in the quirky series Portlandia, the eccentricity of Portland isn't an isolated phenomenon. It's woven into the very essence of the entire state. Oregon's unique charm may be rooted in its diversity, spanning from breathtaking oceanfront cliffs to condensed urban centers and expansive woodlands and nature reserves.
Ranked as the ninth-largest state in the country, Oregon offers vast open spaces with a relatively low population. This characteristic allows residents to embrace the freedom of space or engage in the camaraderie of tight-knit city communities, depending on their preferences. At Number 1 Auto Transport, we recognize the allure of Oregon's diverse beauty and understand the importance of bringing your car along for the journey.
Trust us to make your move to Oregon smooth and easy, ensuring your vehicle arrives safely in this state that celebrates both individualism and community spirit.

How to Ship a Car to Oregon?
The best way to answer the question of "How to ship my car to Oregon" is to show you how we operate our auto shipping business. We know car owners won't trust just any car shipping company to move their vehicle across states. They want experience and reputation. Here's how we do it:
- First, once your order is placed, we'll start the process of moving a car to Oregon. This usually happens within a week. We'll continue updating you on important information, including the time and date of pickup, tracking number, and the truck driver's number.
- Then, the truck driver will call you to finalize delivery plans. The drivers in our carrier network strive to take care of all vehicles carried as if they are their own. Protecting your car against any damage from delivery is their ultimate concern. You'll also sign and receive a Bill of Lading before the driver leaves.
- Finally, once the vehicle arrives in Oregon, you and the driver will inspect the vehicle for any damage. This is also the time when you will sign the final inspection report. It's that simple!
Oregon Auto Transport Routes, Transit Times, and Pricing
Depending on the car's location, most pickup windows are 24 to 72 hours from when the vehicle is ready to be picked up. This window could take up to 5 days in remote areas. Oregon car shipping turnaround time for a destination under 1,000 miles is 2 to 3 days. From 1,000 to 1,750 miles, the transit time is estimated to be 4 to 6 days. From 1,750 to 2,500 miles, the transit time is estimated at 7 to 10 days.

Military and PCS Auto Transport in Oregon
Oregon's installations are mostly Air and Army National Guard: the 142nd Wing in Portland, the 173rd Fighter Wing in Klamath Falls, and Guard posts and training centers from the coast to the high desert. Number 1 Auto Transport coordinates PCS shipments to and from every major Oregon installation.
We work around orders timing, lock quotes early, and discount military rates for active duty, reserve, National Guard, and veterans. Your assigned agent stays with the move from quote through delivery. One number, one person, one record. Full details on our military auto transport page.
Oregon Military Installations We Serve
Portland Air National Guard Base
Portland, OR. Home of the 142nd Wing and its F-15EX fighters. The wing's mission is to defend the nation and protect Oregonians.
Kingsley Field
Klamath Falls, OR. The 173rd Fighter Wing trains fighter pilots. The Air Force picked it for an F-35 training squadron, and it divested its F-15s in December 2025.
Camp Withycombe
Clackamas, OR. An active Oregon National Guard post off I-205, about 30 minutes from downtown Portland, and home of the Oregon Military Museum.
Camp Rilea Armed Forces Training Center
Warrenton, OR. A 2,000-acre state military post on the North Coast, serving the Pacific Northwest since 1927.
Raymond F. Rees National Guard Training Center
Hermiston, OR. About 8,000 acres on the former Umatilla Chemical Depot, and home of one of only two infantry training schools west of the Mississippi River.
Biak Training Center
Powell Butte, OR. Over 43,000 acres of leased federal land for mounted and dismounted maneuver training, managed under the Rees Training Center.
Najaf Training Center
Benton County, OR, about 10 miles north of Corvallis. About 527 acres of federal land licensed to the Oregon Military Department for maneuver training.
Timing Your Shipment Around PCS Orders
PCS season runs May to August. Carrier supply tightens, prices rise, and pickup dates fill weeks ahead. Book 3 to 4 weeks out once orders are in hand. We can hold a quote for 7 days while you finalize report dates.
Know where the posts sit. The 142nd Wing flies out of Portland, and Camp Withycombe is in Clackamas off I-205, so both are Portland metro drops on I-5 and I-84. Kingsley Field is far to the south in Klamath Falls. Camp Rilea sits on the North Coast at Warrenton, and Najaf is just north of Corvallis in the Willamette Valley. Rees is in Hermiston in the northeast, and Biak is at Powell Butte, east of the Cascades. A move between the valley and Biak or Rees crosses a mountain pass or the Columbia River Gorge, so winter orders need a day or two of slack.

Lowboy & Step Deck Carriers to Oregon
With continued development across the Silicon Forest (Oregon's answer to Silicon Valley and home to a cluster of high-tech companies, including Xerox, Tektronix, Intel, Pixelworks, and more), there are always construction projects popping up. Whether working in this Beaverton and Hillsboro region or further west to Bend or down south to Medford, Oregon, construction crews often look for help moving equipment such as dozers, telehandlers, excavators, and more. Crews must keep their skilled hands working instead of pulling them away from their specialties to move equipment. That's why construction teams across the state rely on Oregon auto transport experts to ensure they stay on schedule and everything gets to the job site safely. They turn to the Oregon equipment transport experts at Number 1 Auto Transport and the lowboy carriers in our network.
Transporting heavy construction equipment is a serious business. The veteran lowboy carrier drivers in our network are trained to handle oversized loads and high gross tonnage. They are skilled in moving heavy equipment in and out of job sites and navigating busy highways with unique loads.
What Moves on Lowboy and Step Deck Trailers
- Dozers, telehandlers, and excavators
- Backhoes, wheel loaders, and skid steers
- Cranes, lifts, and aerial booms
- Paving and road construction equipment
- Combines, tractors, and farm implements
- Industrial generators and pumps
Why Lowboy and RGN Transport Works for Oregon
Height Compliance
Lowboy decks sit 18 to 24 inches off the ground. Tall machinery clears bridges and overpasses on I-5, I-84, and I-205.
Stability and Capacity
Step deck and lowboy trailers carry the weight of full-size dozers, cranes, and combines without straining the suspension.
Permit and Escort Expertise
Carriers in our network handle Oregon oversize and overweight hauling permits, route surveys, escort vehicles, and restricted travel windows.
Oregon Port Logistics
The Port of Portland sits where the Columbia and Willamette rivers meet. It calls itself Oregon's largest deep-draft port and a top auto gateway on the West Coast for imports and exports, with direct rail and easy access to the interstates. Two of its marine terminals handle cars, and we coordinate pickups and deliveries at both.
Terminal 4
Portland, OR, at 11040 N. Lombard St. A 262-acre terminal with four berths for autos, bulks, breakbulk, ro-ro, and high and heavy cargo. Toyota has run its auto import and processing facility here since the 1970s.
Terminal 6
Portland, OR, at 7201 N. Marine Dr. A 419-acre terminal with Oregon's only international container terminal and an eight-track on-dock rail yard. Auto Warehousing Company moves tens of thousands of vehicles a year here for Ford, Hyundai, and other carmakers, by ship, rail, and truck.
Equipment that does not fit on a step deck moves on a Removable Gooseneck (RGN) trailer. The front detaches so tracked machinery rolls on without ramps. Best for excavators, dozers, and equipment without functional drive systems.
Need an Oregon heavy haul quote? Send equipment specs and route. We come back with a price-locked rate.
Open vs Enclosed Auto Transport in Oregon
Most Oregon customers ship on open auto transport. About 85 percent of US shipments move this way. Enclosed auto transport is the right pick for classics, exotics, and any vehicle valued at $75,000 or more.
Side-by-Side Comparison
| Feature | Open | Enclosed |
|---|---|---|
| Share of US shipments | About 85% | About 15% |
| Vehicles per load | 8 to 10 | 2 to 6 |
| Cost vs. base | Standard | 40 to 60% above open |
| Protection | Tied down, weather exposed | Fully enclosed |
| Carrier availability | Wide, faster pickup | Tighter, books up fast |
| Booking lead time | 1 to 2 weeks | 2 to 3 weeks |
| Best fit | Daily drivers | Classics, exotics, $75K+ |
When Each Option Makes Sense

Open Transport in Oregon
Thinking about using open auto transport for your Oregon car transport needs? Open carriers, resembling the double-decker car carriers from dealerships, assure secure and punctual car transport to and from Oregon. Your vehicle, equipped with state-of-the-art technology, is reliably secured and delivered within seven days of departure. Opt for open auto transport for a secure and cost-effective solution, shielding your car from road vibration, excess mileage, and various concerns. Enclosed Transport in Oregon
When you opt to send your vehicle via enclosed auto transport when looking for car transport in Oregon, you'll avoid damage from wind-blown debris in storms, damaging sea salt mist, and other curveballs the weather throws out there. Having your car shipped to Oregon in an enclosed carrier is a smart investment for your investment.
Oregon weather note. With a generally mild climate (the city of Bend often registers 300 or more sunny days per year), drivers and automobile shippers throughout Oregon don't often have much to worry about as far as the weather goes. Of course, there will always be the chance of thunderstorms rolling through, and the sea salt air along the coast can provide concerns for vehicle finishes.
The safest way to transport your car to Oregon is within an enclosed auto transport. There are two options for shipping your car via enclosed auto transport. Soft-Sided Enclosed Auto Transport: the heavy canvas covering the carriers protects your car from wind-blown debris, rain, sleet, snow, and other elements. Hard-Sided Enclosed Auto Transport: in addition to the advantages of soft-sided carriers, hard-sided carriers offer protection for your car in the unlikely event your car is exposed to possible damage during transportation.
Not sure which one fits? Tell us the year, make, and model and we will say so straight.
Should You Drive or Ship Your Car to or from Oregon?
Driving it yourself looks free until you add it up. These figures come from our New York to Oregon route guide, for a one-way run of 2,600 to 3,000 miles from New York into Oregon.
The Hidden Cost of Driving It Yourself
| Expense | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Fuel | $290 to $350 |
| Meals and lodging | $620 to $850 |
| Tolls | $40 to $80 |
| Total out of pocket | $950 to $1,280 |
Typical figures for a sedan, four nights on the road, and five days of driving. It leaves out the flight back, 2,900 miles on the odometer, and five days of your time.
Driving vs. Shipping, Side by Side
| Factor | Driving yourself | Shipping your car |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | Fuel, four hotel nights, meals, tolls, and maintenance | One quote, locked at booking |
| Vehicle wear | Adds 2,600 to 3,000 miles | Adds zero miles to the odometer |
| Time | Five days or more behind the wheel | Fly out in about six hours |
| Risk | Wyoming blizzards, the Blue Mountains, fatigue | Covered by the carrier's cargo insurance |
| Effort | Route planning, hotels, and a cross-country haul | Picked up and delivered for you |
The bottom line. Driving makes sense if the road trip is the point. If you are relocating for work or moving a second vehicle, shipping costs about the same once the hotel receipts land.

Moving to Oregon: What to Do After Your Car Arrives
Most people shipping into Oregon are relocating. Oregon puts you on one 30-day clock, and its fees work in a way nobody expects: the more efficient the car, the more it costs to title and register. Here is what actually applies.
New Oregon residents have 30 days to title and register the vehicle and to get an Oregon driver license. One 30-day clock covers both. The DMV counts service members stationed in Oregon as visitors, not residents, and visitors can drive here on a valid license from any state.
Title and Registration Fees Depend on Your Car's MPG
Oregon ties both fees to the vehicle's combined MPG rating, and the efficient car pays more, not less. Title is $101 at 0 to 19 MPG, $106 at 20 to 39, $116 at 40 or higher, and $192 for an all-electric vehicle. Two-year registration runs $126, $136, $216, and $376 on the same scale, and new plates are $26. Multnomah County adds $112, and Washington and Clackamas counties add $60. The OReGO road usage program drops the two-year registration to $86. Starting July 1, 2027, used electric vehicles pay that $86 at renewal plus a flat fee or a per-mile charge.
There is no sales tax on a car you already own. Oregon has no general sales or use tax. Its vehicle use tax is narrow: it applies only to a car bought from a dealer outside Oregon that meets all five criteria, including a purchase date of January 1, 2018 or later and 7,500 miles or less on the odometer. The tax is one-half of 1 percent of the retail price. A car you have been driving in another state fails that test.
The VIN Inspection Is $9, and Emissions Depend on Where the Car Lands
A vehicle with an out-of-state title needs a vehicle identification number inspection. It costs $9 and can be done at your DMV title appointment. DEQ can do it too, but only with an emissions test, and the DMV still charges the fee.
Emissions testing covers two areas, not the whole state. Cars registered in the Portland metro and the Medford and Ashland area must pass a test before the DMV will register them, then again every two years. Portland tests 1975 and newer gasoline, alternative fuel, and hybrid vehicles. Medford tests those 20 years old or less. Cars from the last four model years and fully electric vehicles are exempt. The test is $25 in Portland and $20 in Medford, charged only on a pass. It is walk-in with no appointment, and a car new to the state cannot use the DEQ Too program. Deliver outside those areas and there is no emissions step.
There is no safety inspection to plan around. The DMV's checklist for vehicles new to Oregon has no line for one.
Insurance and License
Oregon requires liability coverage of $25,000 per person, $50,000 per crash, and $20,000 for property damage, plus $15,000 in personal injury protection and uninsured motorist coverage at $25,000 and $50,000. The DMV puts it plainly: in Oregon, it is illegal to drive without liability coverage. You give your policy number every time you register a vehicle.
The driver license runs on the same 30-day clock, so plan both for the same week. Most people with a license from another U.S. state can transfer it without testing.
Bring the out-of-state title, a signed Application for Title and Registration with the odometer reading, your insurance policy number, the DEQ certificate if the car lands near Portland or Medford, and $9 for the VIN inspection. Check current fees with the Oregon DMV before you go.
Oregon Seasonal Shipping Guide
Our two Oregon route guides keep different calendars. The long haul from New York peaks with the fall snowbird run and the spring moving season, while the I-5 lane from California stays busy all summer. Here is what to expect month by month.
- Jan
- Feb
- Mar
- Apr
- May
- Jun
- Jul
- Aug
- Sep
- Oct
- Nov
- Dec
- Peak on both lanes
- Building, or peak on the I-5 lane only
- Base on both lanes
The New York Lane
On the long haul from New York, October and November pull carriers onto snowbird routes, and April and May are the spring relocation peak. December through February prices best and runs slowest, because Wyoming and the Blue Mountains close in storms. September brings students to Eugene and Corvallis; see our college student car shipping page for the discount. Our snowbird car transport page explains why the same carriers serve both seasons.
The I-5 Lane From California
Our San Diego to Portland route guide uses the seasonal figures on our California page. It prices May through August at 10 to 20 percent above base for PCS and summer moves, and October and November the same for snowbird traffic. March runs 5 to 10 percent above base, April 10 to 20, and December 5 to 10, while January and February sit at base. Those cheap months are also when Tejon Pass closes and Siskiyou Summit takes chain controls, so build in a day of slack.
| Window | Demand | What drives it | Booking lead time |
|---|---|---|---|
| October to November | Peak | Snowbird traffic pulls carriers onto Florida and Arizona routes | 3 to 4 weeks |
| December to February | Quiet | Cheapest and slowest. Wyoming and the Blue Mountains close in storms | 1 to 2 weeks |
| March to May | Building to peak | Spring moves and the first PCS orders. Chain controls can still run in March | 2 to 4 weeks |
| June to August | Steady | Demand settles back to base once the spring rush clears | 1 to 2 weeks |
| September | Building | Students head to Eugene and Corvallis and fall moves begin | 2 weeks |
Our Oregon page has never published a seasonal figure of its own. This table is our New York to Oregon route guide's, which prints demand and lead times but no premium. The I-5 percentages above are the ones our San Diego to Portland route guide prints, taken from our California page.

Oregon Weather Factors
Siskiyou Summit on I-5
I-5 tops out at 4,310 feet at Siskiyou Summit, south of Ashland. ODOT says conditional closures are frequent there in winter. A typical one requires chains on every vehicle except four-wheel drives that are not towing.
Santiam and the Cascade Passes
Trips from the Willamette Valley to Bend cross the Cascades. Santiam Pass on Highway 22 sits at 4,817 feet and Willamette Pass on OR 58 at 5,126. Oregon's chain law covers every highway, and a vehicle over 10,000 pounds or towing must chain up when signs say so.
Columbia River Gorge Ice
I-84 runs through the Gorge into Portland from the east. The National Weather Service in Portland lists closure of I-84 among the impacts of an ice storm warning. A Portland delivery can sit a day waiting for it to reopen.
Wyoming and the Blue Mountains
On the New York lane, ground blizzards close I-80 in Wyoming, and the Blue Mountains take chain controls November through March. Carriers then drop to I-70 and I-15 and come up I-5 from California, which adds miles rather than days.
Storm Response Plan
Monitor

Oregon Auto Transport Frequently Asked Questions
The questions we get most on Oregon moves. For everything else, see our auto transport FAQ.
What is the cost of shipping a car to Oregon?
The cost of shipping a car to Oregon depends on several factors, including distance, location, trailer type, vehicle details, and seasonality. Prices fluctuate throughout the year, and busy seasons may lead to slightly higher costs. In order to get the most accurate quote, you should provide the following information: your car's type and specifications, origin and destination cities, flexible shipping dates (if possible), and preferred trailer type (open or enclosed).
How long does it take to ship a car to or from Oregon?
Most pickup windows are 24 to 72 hours from when the vehicle is ready to be picked up. In remote areas, it could take up to 5 days. Here are some estimated transit times based on distance: under 1,000 miles, 2 to 3 days. 1,000 to 1,750 miles, 4 to 6 days. 1,750 to 2,500 miles, 7 to 10 days.
What types of vehicles can I transport to or from Oregon?
Number 1 Auto Transport handles all your vehicle relocation needs, from everyday cars and trucks like coupes, sedans, SUVs, and pickups to minivans and passenger vans. We've got you covered for specialty vehicles too, including electric cars, motorcycles, and all-terrain rides like ATVs and UTVs. Need your golf cart or a John Deere Tractor shipped? If it has wheels, we can ship it!
Can I transport a car to or from Oregon if it's not running?
Yes, carriers in our network are equipped with a winch to help pull the vehicle onto the trailer. Please let your dedicated shipping agent know if the car breaks, rolls, and steers.
Can I pack my car when transporting it to or from Oregon?
While some personal belongings can be transported inside your vehicle for your convenience, there are restrictions. The total weight must be under 100 pounds, and for security reasons, they should be stored in the trunk or back seat, remaining below the window line. It's important to note that any personal belongings shipped within the car are not covered by the standard transport insurance in case of damage or loss.
Does my vehicle need to have plates when shipping it to or from Oregon?
No, but sometimes a carrier will have to meet in a parking lot due to the size of his truck and the destination street layout. If so, you will most likely have to drive the car a few blocks.
How should I prep my car before shipping it?
It's recommended to wash your car so the transport carrier can do a proper inspection at pickup. Remove any toll tags so you don't incur fees while in transit. It's also best to remove any loose parts to prevent any damage during transport.
What is the cheapest way to transport a car to or from Oregon?
The cheapest way to ship a car to or from Oregon is on an open car trailer.
Should I drive or ship my car to Oregon?
If the trip is a short distance, you should consider driving it to save money. Shipping is ideal for long distances, valuable cars, or if you don't want the hassle of driving yourself.
Is my vehicle insured when using an Oregon car shipping service?
Yes, all the carriers in our network are vetted and screened with the DOT and FMCSA to make sure they have up to date and adequate cargo coverage to fully protect your car during transport.
How do I get a quote for shipping my car to Oregon?
Most car shipping carriers request a 3-day (weekday) window for pickup. Once you have your desired pickup window, provide us with the year, make, model, and we will be able to provide you with an Oregon car shipping rate.
How do I pay for my Oregon auto transport service?
Number 1 Auto Transport offers a variety of convenient payment methods to ensure a smooth transaction for our customers. We accept all major credit cards for your convenience. Additionally, we facilitate secure electronic transfers through established platforms (Zelle, Venmo, Cashapp, Paypal) as well as ACH and wire transfers. For alternative payment preferences, certified and bank checks are also accepted.
What documents do I need to provide to ship my car?
You do not need to provide any documents to ship your car. However, it is recommended to sign a Bill of Lading before the carrier leaves.
What happens upon pick-up and delivery of my car?
The transport carrier will conduct a thorough inspection with you at the predetermined pickup location, noting any existing dents or scratches. The same inspection will be done upon delivery.
How far in advance do I need to schedule my Oregon car shipping service?
To ensure we can fulfill your preferred delivery timeframe, scheduling your car shipment with ample lead time is highly recommended. Ideally, booking your transport at least 2 to 3 weeks in advance allows for optimal planning and execution.
Do I have to register my car in Oregon after it arrives?
Yes, if you are moving here. You have 30 days to title and register the car and to get an Oregon driver license. A car with an out-of-state title needs a $9 VIN inspection. Title and registration fees rise with the car's MPG rating. Emissions testing applies only in the Portland and Medford areas, there is no safety inspection, and there is no sales tax on a car you already own.
