How to Ship a Car to Wyoming?
The best way to answer the question of "How to ship my car to Wyoming" is to show you how we operate our auto shipping business. We know car owners won't trust just any car shipping company to move their vehicle across states. They want experience and reputation. Here's how we do it:
- First, once your order is placed, we'll start the process of moving a car to Wyoming. This usually happens within a week. We'll continue updating you on important information, including the time and date of pickup, tracking number, and the truck driver's number.
- Then, the truck driver will call you to finalize delivery plans. The drivers in our carrier network strive to take care of all vehicles carried as if they are their own. Protecting your car against any damage from delivery is their ultimate concern. You'll also sign and receive a Bill of Lading before the driver leaves.
- Finally, once the vehicle arrives in Wyoming, you and the driver will inspect the vehicle for any damage. This is also the time when you will sign the final inspection report. It's that simple!
Wyoming Auto Transport Routes, Transit Times, and Pricing

Lowboy / Step Deck Carriers to Wyoming
With all the wide-open space in Wyoming, construction crews, farmers, and mining companies often need help moving their massive equipment from one site to the next. When miners need steam shovels and mining tractors moved to the job site, or when construction crews need to move a bulldozer, paver, roller, or telehandler, they don't want to tie up specialized workers. They need a transport company with the expertise to handle large units. That's why teams across the Cowboy State rely on the Wyoming lowboy equipment transport experts at Number 1 Auto and the lowboy carriers in our network to ensure they stay on schedule and everything gets to the following site safely.
What Moves on Lowboy and Step Deck Trailers
- Steam shovels and mining tractors
- Bulldozers, pavers, and rollers
- Telehandlers, graders, and power shovels
- Tractors, combines, and farm implements
- Flatbed and medium-duty work trucks
- Cranes, lifts, and aerial booms
Why Lowboy and RGN Transport Works for Wyoming
Height Compliance
Lowboy decks sit 18 to 24 inches off the ground. Tall machinery clears bridges and overpasses on I-80, I-25, and I-90.
Stability and Capacity
Step deck and lowboy trailers carry the weight of full-size dozers, cranes, and combines without straining the suspension.
Permit and Escort Expertise
Carriers in our network handle Wyoming Highway Patrol oversize and overweight permits through its electronic permitting system, and they park wide loads when WYDOT posts a No Unnecessary Travel advisory.
Equipment that does not fit on a step deck moves on a Removable Gooseneck (RGN) trailer. The front detaches so tracked machinery rolls on without ramps. Best for excavators, dozers, and equipment without functional drive systems.
Need a Wyoming heavy haul quote? Send equipment specs and route. We come back with a price-locked rate.

|---|---|---|
| Share of US shipments | About 85% | About 15% |
| Vehicles per load | 8 to 10 | 2 to 6 |
| Cost vs. base | Standard | 40 to 60% above open |
| Protection | Tied down, weather exposed | Fully enclosed |
| Carrier availability | Wide, faster pickup | Tighter, books up fast |
| Booking lead time | 1 to 2 weeks | 2 to 3 weeks |
| Best fit | Daily drivers | Classics, exotics, $75K+ |

Enclosed Transport in Wyoming
Enclosed Car Shipping Service to Wyoming The safest way to transport your car to Wyoming is within an enclosed auto transport. There are two options for shipping your car via enclosed auto transport. Soft-Sided Enclosed Auto Transport: The heavy canvas covering the carriers protects your car from wind-blown debris, rain, sleet, snow, and other elements. Hard-Sided Enclosed Auto Transport: In addition to the advantages of soft-sided carriers, hard-sided carriers offer protection for your car in the unlikely event your car is exposed to possible damage during transportation.
Wyoming weather note. In one of the coldest states in the contiguous 48, summers in Wyoming rarely move into the triple digits. In Jackson, it isn't unheard of to have lows in the summer months hanging around the freezing point. Outside of the cold weather, the state's southeastern portion is vulnerable to tornadoes, although they tend to be shorter and less damaging than those seen throughout much of the Midwest. Add on to that the sparseness across the plains, making transport vulnerable to blowing sand and debris, and Wyomingites know that enclosed auto transport is the smart way to go. When you opt to send your vehicle via enclosed carrier when looking for car transport in Wyoming, you'll avoid damage from rain, icy storms, wind-blown debris in storms, and other curveballs the weather throws out there. Having your car shipped to Wyoming in an enclosed carrier is a wise investment for your investment.
Not sure which one fits? Tell us the year, make, and model and we will say so straight.
Should You Drive or Ship Your Car to or from Wyoming?
No route guide covers a Wyoming lane yet, so we do not publish a driving cost for one. Here is how the two options compare on everything except the price.
Driving vs. Shipping, Side by Side
| Factor | Driving yourself | Shipping your car |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | Fuel, lodging, meals, tolls, and wear, paid as you go | One quote, locked at booking |
| Miles on the odometer | Every mile of the trip, plus any detours | Zero miles added |
| Days | Your own days behind the wheel, then a trip back | 2 to 3 days under 1,000 miles and 7 to 10 days from 1,750 to 2,500 miles, none of it yours |
| Risk | High winds and blizzards that close I-80 and I-25, drifting snow on the I-80 Summit, and fatigue | Covered by the carrier's cargo insurance |
| Effort | Route planning, hotels, WYDOT 511 road reports, and a flight home | Picked up and delivered for you |
The transit windows are the ones this page has always published. Your quote supplies the shipping price, so the table leaves dollar figures out.
The bottom line. Driving makes sense on a short run, the way our FAQ below says. For a long haul, a winter move, or a car you want kept off the road, shipping gives you the days back and keeps the miles off the car.

Moving to Wyoming: What to Do After Your Car Arrives
Most people shipping into Wyoming are relocating or reporting to F.E. Warren Air Force Base or a Guard unit. Wyoming wants your car registered once you become a resident, and no sales tax is due on a car you already registered in another state. Here is what actually applies.
Wyoming law says a new resident must register the car upon becoming a resident. It sets no window of days. You count as a resident once you work here and live here, or after 120 days in the state, and right away when you register to vote or buy a resident hunting or fishing license. Register with the county treasurer in the county where you live. No sales tax is due on a car you already registered in another state, and the county steps for a car from another state list no safety inspection or emissions test.
Register From Your Current Registration, Then Title
If your registration from another state is still current, the county treasurer can register the car from it. Bring a copy of that registration, proof of insurance, and a photo ID. If it has expired, get a Wyoming title from the county clerk first. Wyoming law also asks new residents for a Wyoming title, applied for at the county clerk's office on the same timeline.
A car titled or registered in another state needs a VIN inspection before the clerk will title it. Any Wyoming law enforcement officer can do it, and the fee is $10. If the car is still out of state, an officer there can fill out Wyoming's VIN inspection form, and you mail it to the county clerk with the fee.
No Sales Tax on a Car You Already Registered
Wyoming collects sales tax on a vehicle at the county treasurer's office before its first Wyoming registration. State law says the tax is not collected when the same owner registered the car in another state before moving here. If tax is due, Wyoming gives credit for sales tax you legally paid to another state on the purchase, up to the Wyoming amount.
Registration has two parts. The state fee for a passenger car is $30. The county fee is 3 percent of a share of the factory price: 60 percent in the car's first year, falling each year to 15 percent from the sixth year on, with a $5 minimum. Sheridan County gives this example: a car with a $48,000 factory price in its third year pays a $576 county fee.
No Safety Inspection, No Emissions Test
The county lists for a car coming from another state ask for the registration or title, proof of insurance, and the VIN inspection. They list no safety inspection. Emissions testing does not apply anywhere in Wyoming. The EPA's list of state and local emissions testing programs, updated September 18, 2026, does not include Wyoming.
Insurance and License
Wyoming requires liability coverage of at least $25,000 per person and $50,000 per accident for bodily injury, and $20,000 for property damage. Every policy must include uninsured motorist coverage at the same bodily injury limits unless you turn it down. Insurance must be in force before the car is registered, so bring proof that shows the VIN and the policy's end date.
You have one year from the time you establish residency to get a Wyoming driver license. If your license is from Georgia, Massachusetts, Michigan, Tennessee, or Wisconsin, or it is a commercial license, apply as soon as you establish residency. Apply in person at a driver exam station. You turn in your old license, bring the required documents, have your photo taken, and complete a vision screening.
Take your out-of-state title and the VIN inspection to the county clerk, where the title fee is $15. Then take your registration, proof of insurance, and photo ID to the county treasurer. An electric car adds a $100 yearly decal, and a plug-in hybrid adds $50. Service members who register here and deploy outside the continental United States for 90 days or more can renew an expired registration within 14 days of coming home, with no penalty. Check current rules with the Wyoming Department of Transportation before you go.
Wyoming Seasonal Shipping Guide
Wyoming's busy months follow the snowbirds coming home from Florida, Texas, Nevada, and Arizona and the summer PCS season at F.E. Warren. Wind and blizzards set the pace from fall to spring. Here is what to expect month by month.

Snowbird Runs on the Florida, Texas, Nevada, and Arizona Lanes
Our Florida page puts snowbird season at October to April. Cars head south from October through December and come back north in March and April. Our Texas page shows the same pattern. Our Nevada page has October and November pulling carriers toward Las Vegas, with snowbirds starting home in March, and our Arizona page has winter residents arriving in October and November and heading home in April and May. All four lanes are on this page's tables, so book early in those months. See our snowbird auto transport page for booking lead times and price locking.
PCS Season and Winter
PCS season runs May to August. Book 3 to 4 weeks out for a move to or from F.E. Warren Air Force Base or a Guard unit, and steer clear of the last two full weeks of July at F.E. Warren if your orders allow. From October to April, wind or a blizzard can close stretches of I-80 or I-25, so build a day of slack into a pickup in those months.
| Window | Demand | What drives it | Booking lead time |
|---|---|---|---|
| October to December | Snowbirds head south | Florida's snowbird season opens, snowbirds head south to Texas, and the runs toward Las Vegas and into Arizona fill in October and November | 2 to 4 weeks on Florida lanes, 3 to 4 on Texas, Nevada, and Arizona lanes |
| January to February | Base | Snowbirds stay south. Wind closures and blizzards on I-80 and I-25 set the pace, and our Nevada page notes Wyoming weather stalls trucks on the Reno lane in winter | 2 to 3 weeks, as our FAQ advises |
| March to May | Snowbirds head home | Cars come back north from Florida and Texas in March and April, from Nevada starting in March, and from Arizona in April and May | 2 to 4 weeks on Florida lanes, 3 on Texas lanes, 2 to 3 on Nevada lanes, 3 to 4 on Arizona lanes |
| May to August | Peak (PCS season) | PCS orders to and from F.E. Warren Air Force Base, the 153rd Airlift Wing, and Camp Guernsey | 3 to 4 weeks |
| September | Base | The quiet month before the fall run. Our Florida page names it a low-rate month | 2 to 3 weeks |
Wyoming has no route guide, and this page publishes no seasonal figure beyond the 2 to 3 week booking advice in its FAQ. The snowbird windows and lead times come from our Florida auto transport page (October to April, 2 to 4 weeks, and September as a low-rate month), our Texas auto transport page (south from October to December, north in March and April), our Nevada auto transport page (October and November toward Las Vegas, home starting in March), and our Arizona auto transport page (in during October and November, home in April and May), whose lanes appear on this page's tables. None of the four names Wyoming on its snowbird list. The PCS window and its lead time also come from the Texas page. We publish no seasonal premium for Wyoming, so your quote carries the real number.

Wyoming Weather Factors
Wind Closures on I-80 and I-25
Since 2011, WYDOT has closed stretches of highway to light, high-profile vehicles in strong crosswinds, and since 2023 its signs post a weight limit. In December 2025, some stretch of I-80 was closed to those trucks for more than 40 percent of the month's hours. Enclosed trailers are among the most at risk.
Blizzards That Shut the Interstates
In March 2021, a blizzard with 45 to 55 mph winds closed I-80 between Rawlins and Cheyenne and I-25 between Casper and Cheyenne from the night of March 13 to the morning of March 17. Plows worked around the clock on drifts over 5 feet on the I-80 Summit.
No Unnecessary Travel Means Wide Loads Wait
When ice or blowing snow makes travel unwise, WYDOT posts a No Unnecessary Travel advisory. Oversize loads may not travel under one, except to reach the nearest parking area or town. If a town fills up during a long closure, WYDOT moves the closure back to the next town.
Back Roads Wait for the Plows
WYDOT crews can work up to 24 hours a day to keep interstates and the busiest highways bare. Low-volume roads are plowed only in daylight, after the busier routes are clear. A pickup off the interstate may wait a day after a storm.
Storm Response Plan
Monitor
We track high wind and blizzard warnings, WYDOT 511 closures, and wind limits on I-80 and I-25 several days out and flag any Wyoming shipment in the path.
Communicate
Your dedicated agent calls 24 to 48 hours before the affected pickup or delivery window.
Hold, Reroute, or Refund
No penalty for weather-driven changes. We reroute, delay, or refund based on your call.
Booking lead time during peak Wyoming windows: 3 to 4 weeks from May to August on PCS orders. 2 to 4 weeks for the snowbird runs from October to December and from March to May. 2 to 3 weeks the rest of the year, as our FAQ advises.
Wyoming Auto Transport Frequently Asked Questions
Get answers to some of the most commonly asked questions about our Wyoming car shipping service. For everything else, see our auto transport FAQ.
What is the cost of shipping a car to Wyoming?
The cost of shipping a car to Wyoming depends on several factors, including distance, location, trailer type, vehicle details, and seasonality. Prices fluctuate throughout the year, and busy seasons may lead to slightly higher costs. In order to get the most accurate quote, you should provide the following information: your car's type and specifications, origin and destination cities, flexible shipping dates (if possible), and preferred trailer type (open or enclosed).
How long does it take to ship a car to or from Wyoming?
Most pickup windows are 24 to 72 hours from when the vehicle is ready to be picked up. In remote areas, it could take up to 5 days. Here are some estimated transit times based on distance: under 1,000 miles, 2 to 3 days. 1,000 to 1,750 miles, 4 to 6 days. 1,750 to 2,500 miles, 7 to 10 days.
What types of vehicles can I transport to or from Wyoming?
Number 1 Auto Transport handles all your vehicle relocation needs, from everyday cars and trucks like coupes, sedans, SUVs, and pickups to minivans and passenger vans. We've got you covered for specialty vehicles too, including electric cars, motorcycles, and all-terrain rides like ATVs and UTVs. Need your golf cart or a John Deere Tractor shipped? If it has wheels, we can ship it!
Can I transport a car to or from Wyoming if it's not running?
Yes, carriers in our network are equipped with a winch to help pull the vehicle onto the trailer. Please let your dedicated shipping agent know if the car breaks, rolls, and steers.
Can I pack my car when transporting it to or from Wyoming?
While some personal belongings can be transported inside your vehicle for your convenience, there are restrictions. The total weight must be under 100 pounds, and for security reasons, they should be stored in the trunk or back seat, remaining below the window line. It's important to note that any personal belongings shipped within the car are not covered by the standard transport insurance in case of damage or loss.
Does my vehicle need to have plates when shipping it to or from Wyoming?
No, but sometimes a carrier will have to meet in a parking lot due to the size of his truck and the destination street layout. If so, you will most likely have to drive the car a few blocks.
How should I prep my car before shipping it?
It's recommended to wash your car so the transport carrier can do a proper inspection at pickup. Remove any toll tags so you don't incur fees while in transit. It's also best to remove any loose parts to prevent any damage during transport.
What is the cheapest way to transport a car to or from Wyoming?
The cheapest way to ship a car to or from Wyoming is on an open car trailer.
Should I drive or ship my car to Wyoming?
If the trip is a short distance, you should consider driving it to save money. Shipping is ideal for long distances, valuable cars, or if you don't want the hassle of driving yourself.
Is my vehicle insured when using a Wyoming car shipping service?
Yes, all the carriers in our network are vetted and screened with the DOT and FMCSA to make sure they have up to date and adequate cargo coverage to fully protect your car during transport.
How do I get a quote for shipping my car to Wyoming?
Most car shipping carriers request a 3-day (weekday) window for pickup. Once you have your desired pickup window, provide us with the year, make, model, and we will be able to provide you with a Wyoming car shipping rate.

What documents do I need to provide to ship my car?

What happens upon pick-up and delivery of my car?
The transport carrier will conduct a thorough inspection with you at the predetermined pickup location, noting any existing dents or scratches. The same inspection will be done upon delivery.
How far in advance do I need to schedule my Wyoming car shipping service?
To ensure we can fulfill your preferred delivery timeframe, scheduling your car shipment with ample lead time is highly recommended. Ideally, booking your transport at least 2 to 3 weeks in advance allows for optimal planning and execution.
Do I have to register my car in Wyoming after it arrives?
Yes, if you are moving here. Wyoming law says a new resident must register the car upon becoming a resident, at the county treasurer's office where you live, and it sets no window of days. No sales tax is due on a car you already registered in another state, but a car titled elsewhere needs a $10 VIN inspection before Wyoming will title it. The county steps list no safety inspection or emissions test, the minimum liability coverage is $25,000 per person, $50,000 per accident, and $20,000 for property damage, and most new residents have one year to get a Wyoming driver license.
