How to Ship a Car to Arkansas?

The best way to answer the question of "How to ship my car to Arkansas" is to show you how we operate our auto shipping business. We understand that car owners in Arkansas won't trust just any car shipping company to move their vehicle across states. They value experience and reputation. Here's how we do it:

  • First, once your order is placed, we'll initiate the process of moving a car to Arkansas. This typically occurs within a week. We'll keep you informed with important details, such as the time and date of pickup, tracking number, and the truck driver's contact information.
  • Next, the truck driver will contact you to confirm delivery plans. The drivers in our carrier network are committed to treating all vehicles as if they were their own, prioritizing the protection of your car against any damage during delivery. Before the driver departs, you'll sign and receive a Bill of Lading.
  • Finally, upon the vehicle's arrival in Arkansas, both you and the driver will inspect it for any damage. This is also the time when you will sign the final inspection report. It's that simple!

Lowboy & Step Deck Carriers in Arkansas

As Arkansas buzzes with construction and development, the need to move mammoth machinery across its terrain becomes paramount. Imagine the challenge of transporting colossal construction equipment safely and securely. That's where the expertise of an Arkansas transport company shines, and lowboy carriers become the unsung heroes of the construction industry.

Enter the lowboy carriers in Number 1 Auto Transport's network, the champions of hauling what truly builds Arkansas. These aren't just trucks; they're behemoths trained to manage oversized loads and staggering tonnage. With drivers adept at weaving through bustling highways and delivering heavy equipment smoothly to job sites, it's clear why Number 1 Auto stands as the go-to choice. After all, when it comes to the serious business of transporting what shapes Arkansas, only the best will do.

White semi pulling a step deck trailer loaded with an orange utility tractor, a red farm tractor, and attachments on a gravel lot, the kind of heavy haul we arrange to and from Arkansas

What Moves on Lowboy and Step Deck Trailers

  • Excavators, dozers, and loaders
  • Skid steers, backhoes, and compact track loaders
  • Cranes, lifts, and aerial booms
  • Utility tractors and work attachments
  • Combines, tractors, and farm implements
  • Industrial generators and pumps

Why Lowboy and RGN Transport Works for Arkansas

  • Height Compliance

Lowboy decks sit 18 to 24 inches off the ground. Tall machinery clears bridges and overpasses on I-40, I-30, I-49, and I-55.

  • Stability and Capacity

Step deck and lowboy trailers carry the weight of full-size dozers, cranes, and combines without straining the suspension.

  • Permit and Escort Expertise

Carriers in our network handle ARDOT oversize and overweight permits, the route and travel times each permit sets, and the escort vehicles wide loads need.

Equipment that does not fit on a step deck moves on a Removable Gooseneck (RGN) trailer. The front detaches so tracked machinery rolls on without ramps. Best for excavators, dozers, and equipment without functional drive systems.

Moving to Arkansas: What to Do After Your Car Arrives

Most people shipping into Arkansas are relocating or reporting to Little Rock Air Force Base. Arkansas gives you 30 days for the plates and the license, and it taxes cars as property every year. Here is what actually applies.

New Arkansas residents need to register their vehicle and get an Arkansas driver license within 30 days of becoming a resident. Both happen at a State Revenue Office. Bring the out-of-state title and an odometer statement, or your out-of-state registration if a lender holds the title. Then list the car with your county assessor, because every renewal checks your assessment, your property taxes, and your insurance.

A Yearly Property Tax on Your Car

Arkansas taxes cars as personal property. List the car with your county assessor. The listing period runs from January 1 to May 31, and a late listing adds a 10 percent penalty. The tax is figured on 20 percent of the car's market value, times the local rate.

You pay the tax the year after you list, by October 15. Before every tag renewal, the state checks that the car is assessed and its property taxes are paid. Arkansas also collects sales tax at registration when you buy a car. If you bought yours shortly before the move, ask your State Revenue Office what applies.

Inspection and Emissions

The DFA's list for registering a car you bring from another state asks for the title and an odometer statement. It lists no safety inspection and no emissions test.

A VIN check is required only when an out-of-state title is branded salvage, prior salvage, or something similar. A city or county police officer, the Arkansas State Police, or a State Police designee can do it.

Insurance and License

Arkansas requires liability coverage of at least $25,000 per person and $50,000 per accident for bodily injury, and $25,000 for property damage. Your policy will include personal injury protection and uninsured motorist coverage unless you turn them down in writing.

Get your Arkansas driver license within 30 days of becoming a resident, at any State Revenue Office. Bring proof of legal presence, your Social Security card, and your out-of-state license, and be ready for a vision exam and a photo. A Class D license for drivers 21 and older costs $40 and lasts 8 years.

Take the out-of-state title and an odometer statement, or the out-of-state registration if a lender holds the title, to any State Revenue Office. The DFA fee schedule lists a $10 title fee and registration of $17 to $30 for a car by weight, or $21 for a pickup or van rated up to one ton. The same schedule lists $200 for electric vehicles, $100 for plug-in hybrids, and $50 for hybrids. Check current fees with the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration before you go.

Snowbird Runs to Florida, Texas, and Arizona

Our Florida page puts snowbird season at October to April. Cars head south from October through December and come back north in March and April. Our Texas page shows the same pattern, and our Arizona page has winter residents arriving in October and November and heading home in April and May. All three lanes are on this page's tables, so book early in those months. See our snowbird auto transport page for booking lead times and price locking.

PCS Season and Winter

PCS season runs May to August. Book 3 to 4 weeks out for a move to or from Little Rock Air Force Base or a Guard base. In winter, ice and snow can stop traffic on I-40, so build a day of slack into a January or February pickup.

Arkansas has no route guide, and this page publishes no seasonal figure beyond the 2 to 3 week booking advice in its FAQ. The snowbird windows and lead times come from our Florida auto transport page (October to April, 2 to 4 weeks), our Texas auto transport page (south from October to December, north in March and April), and our Arizona auto transport page (in during October and November, home in April and May), whose lanes appear on this page's tables. None of the three names Arkansas on its snowbird list. The PCS window and its lead time also come from the Texas page. We publish no seasonal premium for Arkansas, so your quote carries the real number.

Popular Seasonal Routes To and From Arkansas

  • Arkansas to and from Florida
  • Arkansas to and from Texas
  • Arizona to and from Arkansas

Arkansas Weather Factors

  • Ice Storms

In January 2009, one to two inches of ice coated trees and power lines across the northern two rows of counties. Up to 350,000 customers lost power, and at least 30,000 utility poles came down. Ice can hold a pickup or delivery a day or more.

  • Tornado Season

Arkansas averages roughly 37 tornadoes a year. On March 31, 2023, an EF3 tornado tracked more than 34 miles from west Little Rock through North Little Rock, Sherwood, and Jacksonville. A warning on the route holds a truck until the storm passes.

  • Snow on I-40

In February 2021, heavy snow and wrecks stopped westbound I-40 near Biscoe for 16 hours, and Little Rock got 11.8 inches in a single storm. Carriers wait for treated roads before they load.

  • River and Flash Floods

In 2019, the Arkansas River crested more than two feet above its old records at Van Buren and other points, and many highways closed. Carriers do not drive into water over the road, so a flooded route can move a delivery to a dry meetpoint.

Storm Response Plan

  1. Monitor

We track ice storm warnings, tornado watches, and flood warnings several days out and flag any Arkansas shipment in the path.

  2. Communicate

Your dedicated agent calls 24 to 48 hours before the affected pickup or delivery window.

  3. Hold, Reroute, or Refund

No penalty for weather-driven changes. We reroute, delay, or refund based on your call.

Booking lead time during peak Arkansas windows: 3 to 4 weeks from May to August on PCS orders. 2 to 4 weeks for the snowbird runs from October to December and from March to May. 2 to 3 weeks the rest of the year, as our FAQ advises.

If the trip is a short distance, you should consider driving it to save money. Shipping is ideal for long distances, valuable cars, or if you don't want the hassle of driving yourself.

  • Is my vehicle insured when using an Arkansas car shipping service?

Yes, all the carriers in our network are vetted and screened with the DOT and FMCSA to make sure they have up to date and adequate cargo coverage to fully protect your car during transport.

  • How do I get a quote for shipping my car to Arkansas?

Most car shipping carriers request a 3-day (weekday) window for pickup. Once you have your desired pickup window, provide us with the year, make, model, and we will be able to provide you with an Arkansas car shipping rate.

  • How do I pay for my Arkansas auto transport service?

Number 1 Auto Transport offers a variety of convenient payment methods to ensure a smooth transaction for our customers. We accept all major credit cards for your convenience. Additionally, we facilitate secure electronic transfers through established platforms (Zelle, Venmo, Cashapp, Paypal) as well as ACH and wire transfers. For alternative payment preferences, certified and bank checks are also accepted.

  • What documents do I need to provide to ship my car?

You do not need to provide any documents to ship your car. However, it is recommended to sign a Bill of Lading before the carrier leaves.

  • What happens upon pick-up and delivery of my car?

The transport carrier will conduct a thorough inspection with you at the predetermined pickup location, noting any existing dents or scratches. The same inspection will be done upon delivery.

  • How far in advance do I need to schedule my Arkansas car shipping service?

To ensure we can fulfill your preferred delivery timeframe, scheduling your car shipment with ample lead time is highly recommended. Ideally, booking your transport at least 2 to 3 weeks in advance allows for optimal planning and execution.

  • Do I have to register my car in Arkansas after it arrives?

Yes, if you are moving here. You need to register the car and get an Arkansas driver license within 30 days of becoming a resident, at a State Revenue Office. Bring the title and an odometer statement, or your out-of-state registration if a lender holds the title. List the car with your county assessor, because Arkansas taxes cars as personal property every year. The registration list names no safety inspection or emissions test.
